Amelia's

Mattie (and I) have been working on a project. Mattie (and I) wanted to open a Coffee bar/ Flower Shop hybrid doohickey to combine Mattie's love of the coffee shop environment with my knowledge of making things look pretty and there we would have a cozy though stylish place for wacky, artsy freaks to hang out and tend to their startups. Meanwhile Mattie (and I) would befriend especially inventive people and travel the world while our moody college-student employees tended to our business for us.

I (not Mattie) shied away from the idea when we realized Nashville would be a better place for such a shop and I didn't want to move to Nashville to be a cashier. I could explain more about that, but meh. So Mattie decided to stay in Nashville and I decided to stay in Charleston and we went back to the drawing board. Actually, Mattie went to Paris and I went back to work.

Long story short, Mattie (and I) have officially created Amelia's Flower Truck.

The flower truck lives in Nashville and it is Mattie's business. Mattie has to drive around town and find places to park and convince people to buy flowers.
Mattie is one of those brave souls that just plows ahead on new ideas, whereas I would mull it over for a few years and then maybe attempt it half-heartedly. The kicker for Mattie's official business is that Mattie has no floral experience but that didn't stop her, no sir-E, for Mattie has me (a few states over).

Saturday was the opening day and I flew up to Nashville last week to teach Mattie lots of tricks, buy flowers, process 'em, price 'em, arrange 'em, and design bouquets for all the happy customers. And Amelia's Flower Truck was the talk of the town.

I think in time Mattie will be a wonderful floral designer. She watched me for the first part of the day and then jumped right in, picking stems for people who didn't know what they wanted. The truck itself became quite the photo-op and I'm sure we had over one-hundred people "pose for Insta!" while we were busy assembling and wrapping arrangements. Amelia's Flower Truck gained just under 500 followers on Instagram in about 5 hours.
For now, I'm the truck's official "consultant." Mattie's supportive though somewhat anxious parents asked me a few times with concerned bug-eyes if I would move to Nashville to help Mattie and who knows, maybe someday. But I think Mattie and Amelia are going to be just fine.
