Rain Rain

We finally have gotten some much needed rain, so much in fact that my feet are in a constant state of soggy.  It quite nice given this hot hot heat we've been living in for so long.
In more thrilling and invigorating, hair-raising news, I've only got 4 more days of summer classes!!!!!
Oh to be free once again!! I'll have time for fun things- mainly eating and sleeping.
Everything is alright here. I'm moving in to the new place on Friday so I will finally give you some pictures of the asylum. Mom has a lead on her job search and Dad continues his flailing about in between the many details of his busy schedule. Ellen also is still looking for a real job but is bar-tending now at night in the meantime. We're all so proud.

P.s. Mom has urged me to tell you that both cats have voluntarily entered our home, though they are also wet and soggy from all the rain.  She also says thanks again for all the food, lodging, and driving and she has regaled us with all the highlights of her trip- my favoring being the back scratching grizzly bear.

King Street

As I attempt to pack up my belongings, it has just now hit me what a cute little place I have here.  Suddenly I don't really want to leave. Oh, but I do. Don't I?
I'm going to miss my little kitchen though it has proved to be impossible to keep clean- and my little spice rack- oh and my King street window!! I'll miss my wall of post cards and paintings and if I really really think about it, I may even miss my prison-style shower. Maybe. Something about it is kind of...rustic.

Ok, maybe I won't miss the shower.

I've Been Walkin'

In all of my spare time lately (ha!) I've been spending time down at the park on waterfront.  I've come to enjoy the view from one particular bench that I have donned "the mopy bench" as I am typically moping about school while I'm sitting in it. Anyways I brought my camera with me.

Same ol'

I still have nothing for you. Nothing. Been working and reading. And sleeping.
Today however, things will be spiced up for Ellen and I have our walk-through for our new place.  This will be the first time Ellen has seen it and I'm afraid of her pending reaction. She may see the size of the small bedrooms and then turn around and slap me. I'll just have to remind her how much money we'll be saving by living in a kennel-esque atmosphere.

I thought this was a nifty picture.  The plant seems so tropical alas, it's growing down by the dock.

I'm Mad!

MAD!!!
I've had no time for anything this week (as evident from my lack of uproarious, gut-busting, knee-slapping posts.) I've been seeing two things lately. This...

And this...

I've been having to go to work after my strenuous mornings-o-history.  You are right indeed Aunt Georgie! One of my classes is centered around food during the events of history and how they shaped things through trade and culture mixing blah blah blah. Actually, bits of it are interesting but as you can see I have no time to philosophize about life or find new vacation destinations. That one book, The History of Chocolate, has some fun facts in it. Lots of facts about the Aztecs and Mayans though now that it has moved on to those pushy settlers I'm really not that interested.

I've been having to go to work directly after class and though I love my new found place of employment, it really blows! Yesterday was the last day for blueberry picking which is awfully heartbreaking for me as I no longer get to stretch out and read under the shade of my blueberry tent.  I will now be at the big busy tomato tent, frantically bagging veggies!!

As for the home front, Dad is busy building homes and Mom continues her own job search.  Our dishwasher bit the big one and left Mom to do dishes by hand.  Dad promptly went and searched out a "good deal" for some expensive Swiss dishwasher that looks very sleek and shiny.  This dishwasher has been the source of parental quarreling for a week now! Mom thinks it's too small (it really is- you how European appliances are.) Dad thinks it's too good a deal and also does not want to uninstall it to find a new one to reinstall. They won't stop this bickering. Last time I went home I noticed a big hole in the counter where both washers had previously been, so I suppose Mom won this one.

Anyways. I miss my dock and fun summer thoughts.

P.s. I laughed out loud at your "ear-bob" comment as well as the "dump date".  I definitely need see how this is done.

What's Wrong With This Picture?

I'll tell you what's wrong!  I have 8 books for my summer class! That's what's wrong. It's sick. Sick I tell you!!

I started my History classes yesterday and if you can't tell, I'm feeling a bit hostile about it. Just cut out my summer there why don't you! Starting at 7:45, I show up and sit, and listen, and then at 9:30 everyone in class gets to leave but not me. Oh no. I remain. And there I sit for 15 minutes. All alone, before a new crowd of slackers and overachievers alike file in for their share of History. Though I'm finished at 11:30, I have mounds to read and 6 papers to write. Height of rudeness.

As for the fourth, Granny and G-Bob came over as did Paul and we all had a nice dinner and then attempted to watch the fireworks from the dock. Turns out Paul is afraid of fireworks as they remind him of being in Afghanistan thus, Ellen took him inside shortly after going out there.  Mom got something in her eye and left for a good half hour before she returned.  Grandma was very worried about being on the dock in the dark and was quite anxious the whole time.  We promptly headed in after the fireworks ended. As you can see by their expressions, they had a great time.

No really...

In other news, we've gotten our first batch of boiled peanuts which are disappearing rapidly.

Ellen continues her job search as she waits one more week to move into our new apartment.  In the meantime Sadie is providing many laughs.

And good thinking. I bet Alston would love kayak surfing! We'll have to get him on that promptly! And I'm glad you're finally getting some less-offensive weather. Let's see if y'all can go an entire year without breaking a sweat.

And They're Off

Lukas and fam finally left yesterday afternoon. I went over early to get in the last bit of beach time with them and then they loaded their car and drove off into the distance. How terribly heartbreaking! Ha! Actually I'm just fine, thanks for asking. Prior to their last day, Lukas and his family made the trip over to Boone Hall to see the place and stare at me as they rode by on one of the tour trolleys.

And sorry Georgie, I only have one picture of the two of us simply because I'm the one taking most pictures.  But here you are anyway...

They made it home about 3 this morning. Yish!
In other news, Ellen and I decided to tie our kayak to the jet-ski and try our hand at what we called Kayak Surfing.  Apart from the whelps and bruises, this new sport comes highly recommended by us participants. I'm sure you will see this at the X-Games sometime in the near future.

Even Buddy got in on the action!

And our shot of the night...

Mom and Dad watched proudly from the dock as their lovely, lady-like daughters flung themselves up over assorted water-crafts, bruising their legs, chins, and egos in the process.

Life This Week

Oh I've been so busy!! It's a lot of movin' and shakin' to have people in town.  I've been spending most of my time out at the beach with Lukas and family and as of yesterday have gone back to work as well. Luckily, our family dinner went well and Mom and Dad found his sister and parents pleasant and easy to talk to.  Dad made mass portions of a Low-country Boil and we all wolfed down our shares. They came over a bit too late to jet-ski like they had hoped so they showed up again early yesterday morning to get their fill.

That's Lukas's nephew Owen and brother-in-law Ed, and his sister. Sigrid.

They all seem to be enjoying themselves. We've gone downtown a few times and they really like "sweet little Charleston".

I've got to go to work in a little bit but we are all (including Ellen, maybe) headed out to the beach tonight. Lukas's mom is fixing a grand dinner for us. From what I've eaten at their house in the past, this will be a great thing. Mom is currently, frantically trying to make a Key Lime Pie for the occasion.

In other news, Lukas met Bob and Ruth last night and found them highly amusing.  Mostly Granddaddy's little comments. "No one cares Ruth!" Grandma though, acted right and maintained her composure, not laughing so loud or asking invasive questions. We only stayed a minute as we were headed out for dinner but I'm sure she's just waiting to tell me what she thinks.
Ellen just arrived home an hour ago and is now home for good! She is planning to "take me out" for my birthday tonight. I've invited Lukas along to be my bodyguard as I'm not sure I can keep up with Ellen's friends!
